Background:	DG1 is a chloroplast-localized pentatricopeptide repeat (PPR) protein in Arabidopsis thaliana, critical for early chloroplast development and photosynthetic protein synthesis. It interacts with SIG6 to reduce PEP (plastid encoded RNA polymerase) transcriptional activity. DG1 also regulates embryonic symmetry transition from radial to bilateral by antagonizing GUN1 mediated plastid signals.
